Stuck with the Trucks
We met a group of lorry drivers who convinced us with their cheery optimism that the worst part was only about 30 km long and that they could make it though in their trucks the following day if it didn’t rain overnight.
Out of desperation and exhaustion we decided to give it a go and loaded our bikes into an empty truck.
The next morning things didn’t go as well as we had hoped and after less than half a kilometre we were stuck again.
A little more progress was made using cable to couple trucks together and tow each other through the most difficult sections.
But after several snapped cables and a broken differential this idea was abandoned.
In the end there was just too much mud. Vehicles had to rely on the services of local farmers who were putting their tractors and caterpillars to an alternative use and towing cars and trucks for high fees.
