The 'Abismo'
Looking for a little more adventure, we enrolled on a training session which would allow us descend into a large underground cave known as the 'Abismo' (Abyss) and snorkel in the lake at its base.
After the training you have to sign a form acknowledging that you are aware of the dangers and will not hold any accidents against them.
Then we hired some very unattractive wetsuits! We were told that the lake inside the abyss is very cold.
At the top of the abyss, about to lower ourselves inside. It’s 80 meters down to the floating platform.
Looking up as we descended on the ropes.
On the floating platform getting ready to brave the waters.
The water was as cold as we had been warned but the visibility was fantastic; with our flashlights we could make out the ghostly shapes of cones of calcium carbonate under the water. The lake is 80 meters deep; as deep as the cave above it.
