Birthdays and Tarmac
Our friend, Valdeni, eventually caught us up after 7 days. He had made pretty slow progress in his truck mainly due to a fellow driver's truck slipping off a log bridge and thus blocking the road. Lucky we made it across before this happened! He invited us to stay with him at his home in Novo Mutum.
Jeremy celebrating his 30th birthday. It was a double celebration as we had finally made it onto the tarmac only a few days behind schedule.
Jeremy’s birthday present – a cup and straw used by locals for drinking 'mate', a drink similar to tea.
We gave some mate a try – it tasted like cold bitter tea which has not been strained properly. There must be easier ways to get a dose of caffeine!
